Dera Din Panah breed is found in Muzaffargarh and Multan districts in Punjab Province. Dera din Panah is a name of town in Muzaffargarh District, from which the name is given to this goat.
These goats are black with a large compact body. This breed of goats have large head with Roman nose, hair on the chin, long broad, drooping ears and hairy body. Cartilaginous appendages are found on the side of the neck of the goats. Goats are horned which are thick and long with two or three spiraled curves. The size of the tale is medium and covered with short rough hair on it. Udder and teats are well developed and milk yield is more than 1 liter per day upto 245 liters in 135 day lactation. Adult males and females have their weight upto 45 and 40 KG respectively. Hair yield of this breed is 1200 grams per head per annum in this breed. Twin births are most common. These goats are raised for milk, meat and hair production.
